The First Project
Here is the meat of the site.  It's got it all.  Pics and info, what else do you need.

Why did we do this and what the hell is it?

It all started one day at school.  We had a broken chair and snow.

So I said lets put a snowboard under it and turn it into a sled and there was much applause.(not really)  I was talking to my dad about the new project and he suggested Snowmobile skis.  That was a good idea.  So we set out to my garage to get a pair of skis.  We had to find a way to mount the skis.  Without welding this was pretty tough so we got different skis off an older ('75) Ski-Doo.  They were perfect and had leaf springs! Bonus!

With the springs you have good control over the sled.  You lean right and the sled goes right, lean left and the sled goes left.  Simple huh?

We drilled holes in the seat and mounted the skis.  We used two metal plates on the top of the seat to keep the bolts from being pulled into the fabric.  You can't see them because they are under the plastic butt guard.  (Butt guard idea provided by my girlfriend Maria, keeps your butt from getting too wet)

But how to propel this 8th wonder of the world?  You didn't think we were gonna climb a hill or something, did you?  That's where 250 cc's of knobby tired maddness comes in.

It's not the best quad in the world but it's been through a lot. (It's an '85)
We were going to use the 500 Formula Delux Ski-Doo but the tow rope ties up better to this.

What did the rope tie to on the sled?

Saddly, a wooden block and a hook.

After the first test run the block broke and the hook flew off nearly hitting Nik in the head.

So we made a metal harness.  And it was GOOD!

The rope loops around the harness and is clamped together. I would have more pictures but my digi cam batteries are dead.

In Part Two we will have picture of the sled in action so check up on us in a week or two!
